tricks

This is actually how it all began... I started teaching simple tricks to Ben until I ran out of ideas and started searching for new ones on internet. And that's when we found agility and gave it a try as well. However, tricks are still Ben's favourite activity, he is a master of tricks and really loves showing off. Tricks are a part of our everyday life, I teach tricks to puppies, grown up dogs and oldies. There are many reasons why I love tricks, the most important being bonding with my dogs. Tricks create a great bond with your dog, they help a lot with coordination, they teach them how to think, how to learn, how to tackle with problems, they keep your dog in shape, they teach you how your dog responds, thinks, cooperates, what makes him happy, what makes him nervous, what he loves most, how to get over his fears and nervousness, how to relax, as well as they are really useful in agility as teaching your dog obstacles in a fun and simple way.

Teaching tricks is simple and fun, if only you don't have the final result in mind. The best thing about tricks is the process of teaching and learning and the least important thing should be learning a trick. I mostly teach tricks by shaping, with very sensitive dogs I use some more luring and less shaping.
